Think tank and venture research on superintelligence

About

A superintelligence think tank and venture research company.

What we do

Loris Research is a superintelligence think tank with a venture research desk. The think tank asks what advanced systems can do, how to keep them open to oversight, and how institutions can keep pace with them. Venture research asks where the value will go: what gets built, what it will cost, and who should fund it. One desk writes for policy, the other for capital, and each checks the other's work. The papers and theses here are placeholders while the first work is prepared.

Why a loris

The slow loris moves deliberately and sees in the dark with enormous eyes. Careful, watchful and hard to rush: the posture we want toward fast systems, and fast money.

How we publish

Papers come from the think tank: longer arguments, with evidence and footnotes. Theses come from venture research: where superintelligence creates value and who captures it, written for founders and investors. Everything is free to read. Each item has a number, a date and a barcode, and RSS carries every new one.

The plates

The plates are catalogue photographs of objects that do not exist: an eye, a slow loris cast in frosted silicone, a hand, a modem, a fold, an archive box, a pager, a raincoat. Each was generated with an image model and edited a frame at a time into a short loop. Before a photograph appears it is drawn as a 1-bit dither, then opens through a screen of dots.
